This evening will be the first one of our two dance nights. Bring your dance shoes, or just come to listen to the music, while enjoying a glass of wine.


SHADOPLAY is an original Latin Jazz and Funk (Dance) Band from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Band puts on an energetic performance with some of the top musician’s in Calgary. Singer-Harmoni, has so much fun she has to dance. Alex Hutchison-Bass, plays melodic solo’s on fret-less and fretted Basses. Patrice Bance-Guitar Synthesizer, will amaze. Luis Bravo-Percussionist extraordinaire, intertwines rhythm’s with Enoc Velazquez, a Drummer‘s Drummer.


Alex Hutchison was inspired to play bass after a Cream concert in 1967. Alex recorded in Rio de Janeiro in 1996. Starting in 1981, Shadoplay performed 14 years consecutively at the Calgary International Jazz Festival.  He plays a 5 string fretless Bass and a 5 string fretted Bass.


Born in Haiti, guitarist Patrice Bance moved to Montreal in 1969. He has performed 3 times at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal. Patrice plays a Guitar Synthesizer

Harmoni has performed in numerous Jazz Bands. Now with Shadoplay, she is writing lyrics for their instrumental tunes. Shadoplay is transforming her computer generated tunes such as Dance With Me and One Love to live music.


A classic Latin drummer and Percussionist of Latin jazz, salsa, funk, Afro-Caribbean. Luis Bravo plays congas, tumbadoras, bongos, clave, timbal, timbalito, bata, djembe and drums. He was born in Venezuela, South America.


Enoc Velazquez was born in Mexico and raised in Calgary. He played Drums in Jazz Bands in Calgary. He recently moved back to Calgary from Panama, where he performed for 7 years.

The next regular Wednesday night performance will be on November 6. We will be welcoming the Hutchison / Andrews trio. They will also have a special guest: New York based saxophonist Curtis MacDonald.
