The monthly series of concerts features some of Calgary's best jazz musicians and ensembles. The concerts are conducted in the quiet listening and family friendly environment of the Cliff Bungalow-Mission community hall and take place on the first wednesday of every month. Each 2 hour performance starts at 8 pm so everybody can get a good night sleep and be rested the next morning. Coffee, tea, and beverages are served. There is a $15 cover fee for each event ($10 for community association members and students). Tickets are sold at the door. Jazz Winds was founded in 2003 with the idea to get a group of musicians together with backgrounds in both classical music and jazz. This led to a series of compositions with roots in both styles of music. In addition, new music was written with connotations to Calgary: the Deerfoot Trail, Stephen Avenue, and Peter's drive in. Originally an octet, now a quintet, the group has performed in venues that include the Arts space, the Beatniq jazz club and the Calgary Jazz festival. Jazz Winds will be the opening act of the 10/11 CBM season with an exiting new set of originals and arrangements of standards. The Cliff Bungalow - Mission Community Centre is located at: 2201 Cliff Street S.W. two blocks west of 4th Street S.W. at 22nd Avenue S.W. Street parking is available.
